BMW E36 — The Built Build

We took a stock E36 and created a complete build. Here are all the parts — what they do, how much they cost, and where to buy them.

Parts in this build

The BMW E36 is one of the best platforms for modifications on a reasonable budget — rear-wheel drive, balanced weight, and the legendary M50/M52 six-cylinder engine. This is the complete build we put together: what each part does, how much it costs, and where to buy it. You don't have to do it all at once; it can be done gradually.

Aerodynamics

A good aero kit isn't just about looks — at higher speeds, it genuinely helps with grip and stability, and the front and rear must work together to keep the car balanced. A front splitter adds front grip, a GT spoiler provides rear downforce, and a diffuser streamlines airflow under the car.

Appearance

Details determine whether a car looks polished or "unfinished". A rear louvre gives the coupé an iconic race look, M3 style side skirts connect the side line, and LED Angel Eyes give the car a modern face even in the dark.

Chassis

Lowering brings the car closer to the ground, lowers the center of gravity, and instantly changes both the stance and handling. The MTS Technik lowering kit is for the E36 Coupé (01/92–04/99) and has TÜV certification.

Drivetrain and Driving Feel

A part often underestimated by the average owner, but it's where you feel the biggest difference behind the wheel. A billet driveshaft support replaces the softening rubber mount and eliminates car vibrations, a lock adapter locks the differential for drift (plug & play, no welding), and a short shifter makes gear changes clearer and shorter.

Engine and Sound

A good exhaust isn't just about noise. Stainless steel tuned headers for the M50 reduce backpressure, improve cylinder scavenging, and give the engine a cleaner response and that proper six-cylinder sound. Tip: wrap them with thermal insulation tape before installation.

Brakes

When a car drives better, it also needs to brake better — weak brakes are the fastest way to trouble on a track day. EBC Turbo Groove discs (GD553) dissipate heat better and reduce fade during repeated hard braking; they fit E36/E46/Z3/Z4. We recommend pairing them with EBC Ultimax2 pads — note, choose pads according to the exact model (set DP1036 is for E39/E38/X5, not E36), so contact us and we will confirm the correct set.
